THE WINDMILL RESTAURANT

The Windmill Restaurant was a very interesting installation. The restaurant centres on a 15th century granite built windmill with the main restaurant areas situated on two floors in newly built premises attached to the windmill. Trevor Williams, the owner of the restaurant, wanted to create a new and exciting environment offering something different without detracting from the ambience and atmosphere within the eating areas. We therefore decided that wall washes in the eating areas and the interior granite walls of the windmill in deep saturated colours that could change the mood in a seamless manner would create a spectacular backdrop to this amazing building.

The installation featured a total of 72 LED luminaires to create the necessary effects. The downstairs restaurant was fitted out with 21 Tryka Module 3 RGB LED modules. As these units are the same size as a standard MR16 halogen lamp the modules could be easily fitted into existing ceiling downlight fittings creating a very pleasing look within the venue. The curved granite wall of the windmill was fiited with an additional 4 Module 3 RGB units with oval optics to give a wide beam angle across the granite.

The curved stairwell within the windmill is fitted with a Module 3 RGB downlight and a Module 12 RGB floodlight offering a superb saturated ever- changing colour scroll up the stairs to the lounge area which is fitted with 4 Module 3 RGB and 2 Module 12 RGB units giving an atmospheric colour ambience within this chill-out area. Moving into the upstairs restaurant and function room we installed a further 36 Module 3 RGB units into the ceiling using standard MR16 downlight fittings.

The entire system is controlled by Martin LightJockey, a PC based software package that allows independant control of all the areas within the Restaurant. Each area benefits from seamless clour fades at various speeds and even has a sound to light capability to make the LED's flash to the beat of the music, perfect for a party atmosphere.
